Overview

What I Did

This project is about designing an educational Ecommerce website for a team of psychiatrists working in the wellness industry. The UX work presented here is done by me, I was the Project Manager and Design Lead.

What I Did

  • Project Management

  • Ideation - Sketches

  • Low fidelity wireframes

Problem

When you are offering courses online, you need to find the right student, present the course in an appealing way, drive him/her through a process that goes from a general catalogue to a specific course, go through the payment process, and finally deliver the course. At every step you’re risking a sudden loss of the user because human attention spans are extremely limited and vulnerable to distractions.

The Payment process is especially challenging because users have to trust your site to input their personal information. People won’t risk placing their credit card number in a badly designed or confusing form. The risks of personal safety, information privacy and losing money are too great.

Process

  • I was the product owner and worked with a developer to create the site. The site was built using Drupal (CMS).

  • Analyzed comparable sites like Corsera, EdX, and other education sites that had similar courses.

  • Reviewed use cases and researched best practices, patterns, and guidelines.

  • Defined Purchase flows and interactions using wireframes

  • Used wireframes to go through the flow and requirements with the developer

  • Included common features used on online courses like adding notes, course feedback and course completion.

  • Because the site was based on a Drupal template most of the visual design was already done.

  • Modifications to the template like spacing, content location and buttons were discussed with and implemented by the developer.

  • Collaborated with the engineer to troubleshoot issues and solve problems.

  • Followed the process and road-map by going over the progress and requirements.

Solution

As a result the Online Learning Website was completed including Course Set Up, Ecommerce and Course Completion.

  1. Designed the whole website and included clean and easy user interactions and flows to enhance the learning journey.

  2. Created an easy and straight forward process for course payment.

  3. Enabled users to easily overview, select and purchase courses.

  4. Ensured that the users information was safe and private from the development standpoint.

  5. Reassured the users about privacy and safety policies in place.

  6. Provided tools to the developer gather using clear examples and easy to follow assets (flows, graphs, images, etc).

The site is currently unavailable online but available on a private server.
